Property Investments and Repairs

There is nothing like an at-home party, with the prospect of all one’s friends and family coming to visit, to inspire homeowners to complete all those nagging projects they’ve always meant to, from new landscaping or hardscaping in the yard to resealing the driveway or Scotchgarding the carpet. I have seen homes be power washed and painted. I’ve seen trees trimmed and removed. I’ve had clients buy everything from new throw pillows to new patio furniture before their at-home event. At a bare minimum, I insist that you bring in professional house cleaners to do a deep clean before and after the event, simply because you will have other, more important, things to do.

It might be a good idea to bring in your landscaper and your handyman and take a joint survey of the property in the early stages of your planning. They will be able to advise you on what you should do to prepare for the wedding, what you can expect to do afterwards, and how much it is all going to cost. Yes, you may have to invest in the property after the event as well. For example, I’ve had clients who had to repair their lawn after cars parked on it during an event. These are the little (and not so little) things that add up, and you ought to plan for them in advance, rather than be surprised by them later.
