Hiring Your Wedding Professionals

It is important when interviewing wedding professionals to ask them about their past experiences with at-home weddings. It is crucial that you hire someone who is seasoned, not someone who is testing out their backyard wedding skills for the first time on your wedding day. You should ask them about the specific challenges and successes that they have faced at their previous at-home weddings, including their experience implementing a rain plan. Ask to speak to their previous clients who had a wedding similar in size and style to yours.

This may sound silly, but it is not: you should also like the professionals you hire, and get along with them. If someone is rubbing you the wrong way, move on. You will be talking to these folks a lot, and you should like them. If you don’t like them, then you probably won’t trust them. And if they are not trusted, you will never relax and enjoy yourself.

Where do you find these vendors? First, you should ask your friends, trusted co-workers and family for their referrals. After that you can turn to local resources like wedding blogs and magazines. There are also online wedding forums such as Wedding Bee that are a good referral resource. Keep in mind though that the opinion of someone who has planned one wedding may be a little different than someone who has worked at hundreds.  Your tent company should be able to refer you to a couple of caterers. Ask your caterer to refer a florist.
