Virginia Home Wedding: Family Farm

One of the best things that come from home weddings are the photos we get when the couple is getting ready in their childhood home. We had the pleasure of working with this couple and their families for an extra year because this Virginia home wedding was rescheduled due to Covid. I like to think that this just gave us more time to make this family farm wedding even more special.

A Virginia Groom’s Getting Ready

Whenever I have the chance, I will bury the bourbon. This is a fun tradition that is supposed to help ensure the weather is great on your wedding day. This groom and his besties got dressed at a nearby AirBnB. When they arrived at the family estate, they went up the hill (a quarter of a mile) to dig up the buried bourbon and to share a toast. Indeed, we had good weather on this wedding day. The skies cracked open with rain right at midnight! But since the wedding was on a private family farm, the tent was still up and everyone stayed dry.

A Wedding First Look at Home

Most of my couples do a first look. There are so many reasons to do them. You get to complete all your photos before the party gets started. You can spend more time taking photos. You can break the anxiety of the wedding morning and spend even more time with your life partner. And with a private home wedding, you will have first look photos that no one else in the world will have. This Virginia home had some truly inspiring locations for couple’s portraits.

Virginia private estate wedding - tented at home - French Provençal farmer's market theme - ombre coral peach bridesmaid dresses

This couple has such great fashion sense. I love the groom’s gray jacket and the coral ombre bridesmaid dresses. They were perfect for a Summer Solstice wedding on a family farm. I should also mention that this bride was the third generation to wear this dress, which is truly remarkable and inspiring.

Be sure to see all the other posts about this Virginia home wedding: the video, the ceremony, the cocktail hour (featuring one of my favorite escort card displayed ever) and the reception.
