I had so much fun designing this Virginia estate wedding reception with a Provencal farmer’s market aesthetic under a gorgeous sailcloth tent. Each table was named after a fruit, vegetable, or herb and we used that bit of produce in the centerpieces. The garlic table even included garlic grown on this private estate. The headtable was set apart with a different tablescape, upgraded chairs, and a long floral garden created by Holly Chapple. Occasions Caterers tied a mini French banguette and a spring of fresh rosemary with a velvet ribbon for each place setting.
We affixed large branches to the tent poles to bring the outdoors into the tent and create some visual interest in the tent ceiling. We also set up a lounge of vintage furniture near the dance floor for guests to use when they needed to take a break from kciking up their heels.

Once the sun set, we invited guests to the outer edge of the tent to watch the cake cutting. We gave sparklers to the wedding party but then surprised everyone with a 4-minute fireworks display.
Virginia Estate Wedding: Tent Floor Plan

Note the poles down the center of the tent that we have to design the floor plan around. We mixed up the shapes of tables, but this meant that the couple have to oblige the max capacity of those tables. This can complicate the creation of your seating chart.
We also had a slightly off center band and dance floor, given that this tent had three center poles. This made the dance floor a rectangle instead of a square. But I don’t think anyone really noticed. I do recommend installing a solid tent wall behind your band if guests will be walking behind that side of the tent. This will hide the mess of cords and keep everything looking crisp.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, the tables had names, not numbers, so we created a floor plan poster for the guests to reference when looking for their tables.
