Southern Maryland Waterfront Wedding Reception

After A & M’s southern Maryland waterfront wedding ceremony, we moved to the other side of the peninsula. We held the cocktail reception in that area, setting up a pretty bar and a lounge with a view. And naturally, a dump truck pinata for a nephew whose birthday was on the same date. The drink menu featured fall-inspired cocktails.

A asked for a Secret Garden-inspired tent for her southern Maryland waterfront wedding. I felt this theme required a garden gate that looked like it had been there for years and was overgrown with ivy. I think LynnVale Studios did a great job with this rental piece from White Glove.

A Stunning Southern Maryland Waterfront Wedding Reception Tent

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful tent. I’m so grateful for the team I got to work with for this wedding. It was a multi-vendor effort to install the tent, rig the tent for the greenery, and then install the greenery. I appreciate that others will do the math on how many lines of greenery will be best for a tent this size.

Since this event occurred before Covid vaccines, we seated everyone with their families only. So we had a lot of smaller tables. And we did a mix of farm tables with a more rustic tablescape, and round tables with blue linens, and a more contemporary tablescape. It was so fun to be able to design two distinct yet complementary looks.

The original wedding reception venue was a modern Smithsonian museum. But we had developed a color palette for the old venue that still worked great with our Secret Garden tent. We wanted an homage to traditional fall colors, but in hues that were brighter and more cheerful.

To tie in with the wooden ceremony pews, I suggested some wooden tables for the larger family groups. With both wooden tables and blue-linened tables, we created two different tabletop schemes. The dye-cut names as place cards are pricey. But again, with this smaller guest list, splurges don’t add up as quickly.

This cake. So stunning. I’ll never get over it. That you, Buttercream Bakery, which no longer exists.

We installed this wedding tent over an existing hardscaped area in the yard. This gave us a natural dance floor already built in! There were bistro lights in the tent, and we had dance floor washes. We also had uplights around the entire property.

Confetti is always the answer. Another reason to have a wedding at home, where there are no rules against ocnfetti.
