What is a real anecdote from an at-home wedding that you would like to share with brides and grooms planning a similar celebration? When you host an event at your home, be prepared for guests who may arrive early and pop a squat in your living room, kitchen, etc. Typically these are family members who are comfortable in your home, arrive early for photos, etc. Even if you designate a “waiting area” outside for guests and try to keep everyone outside, your home will naturally be quickly filled with a ton of people on the day of the wedding. To prepare for this scenario, have your caterer prepare a light snack/beverages to have available for guests, bridal party, etc. before the ceremony.
What is your biggest tip or piece of advice for couples planning a backyard wedding? Consider the amount of time needed to get your home “wedding ready” – the landscaping you’ll need done, the new stain your fence may need, your windows washed, yard sprayed for bugs…there are so many tasks associated with preparing for a backyard wedding that it’s important to not only know the time that will be required upfront, but also the cost associated with getting your home “wedding ready”.
