I am back, as promised, with a post about Merritt and Sean’s Middleburg backyard wedding ceremony. Today we are looking at the ceremony, which was on the lawn right behind the main house. Skyline Tent Company provided the natural wood folding chairs and Lavender Green created the gorgeous floral arch. Many thanks to Katie Stoops for the photos.
Richie Designs took Merritt and Sean’s save-the-date design, a retro-inspired racing poster, and used it on a fan for the ceremony program. The floral arch featured hundreds of white roses in addition to eucalyptus. The arch was flanked by large potted ferns, some of which were elevated.
Design Cuisine provided pre-ceremony refreshments of watermelon and feta skewers, tea and punch. We knew that some guests would arrive early and we planned to start late. This meant that the earliest guests would have nothing to do for about an hour. The least we could do was give them some drinks and snacks.
We placed a floral wreath on the garden statue’s hat. This is the key to my success: always decorate the statues.
Merritt and Sean’s pup Rusty wore a tie that matched the groomsmen. He escorted Merritt’s mother down the aisle and then he proceeded to sunbathe during the ceremony.
After the ceremony, Merritt and Sean took a few moments alone (with photographer Katie Stoops) with a carriage ride, courtesy of Harmon’s Carriages, around the entire property. After, they joined their guests at the cocktail reception, which was by the pool, in the draped garage, and on the patio behind the ceremony space.
All photos by Katie Stoops.
